Title
the jelly leg'd chicken arts centre
Description
The Jelly Leg'd Chicken opened its doors in Reading's Town Hall in August 2004 after five successful years in Reading's Oracle shopping centre.
The Jelly was set up in 1993 to exhibit quirky, innovative and enduring art. Originally conceived by Suzanne Stallard and against all odds (no funding and in a climate of recession) a lease was signed for a 6 month period at 35 Minster Street.
With huge support the gallery made friends quickly established itself as artist and patron friendly. It showed work as diverse as Giant birds from Barcelona and the "mermaid" show which was on BBC Radio 4. 'A shot in the dark' a photo documentary on Reading Football club was published as a book with the support of Hewlett Packard.
