Named for E.B. Jeffress (1885-1961), former chairman of the North Carolina State Highway Commission, who was largely responsible for persuading the US Department of the Interior to build the Blue Ridge Parkway through North Carolina. The DNC endorsed this name but did not make it a BGN decision as the name was not the "type of feature that the DNC acts upon."
