Charcoal and Pencil Drawings - Fine Art.
Description
About the Artwork
Each original drawing is rendered on white 100% acid free paper or watercolor board. I use a combination of charcoal and pencil in each piece, which adds texture and depth. Even with all of the techniques I use to speed up the drawing process, some of my original drawings have taken over three months to complete. Consequently, I only produce four or five new pieces a year and they range from $1,500.00 to $7,000.00. To make my work available to more people, I produce limited edition reproductions of some of my drawings using photo-offset lithography. These are the same size as the original drawings and are printed using either a duo-tone (two color) process or a full color process. I also print them on a slightly textured paper that is similar to my drawing paper. Using these printing techniques helps preserve the depth, texture and values that are seen in my original drawings. Sometime even I have to look twice to tell the difference!
After the designated number of prints is produced, I destroy the plates used to make the reproduction. No other limited edition of that image - in any form - will ever be reproduced. Each limited edition is signed and numbered and comes with a certificate of authenticity. This signed and dated document states the year it was published, the quantity in the edition and the number of that particular print.
The other format that I offer my work in is an open edition reproduction. These prints are all signed and titled. They are produced after the limited edition has been on the market for a while and the price is starting to go up. The dimensions of these reproductions are significantly smaller than the limited edition prints. Because they are smaller and unlimited – like a poster, they are less expensive. The reproduction process is the same but these images lose some of the detail after being sized down. If I feel that too much detail of an image would be lost in the smaller size, it is only available in the original size as a limited edition. I don’t want any of my reproductions to be missing too much of the detail that I work so hard to get!
