James Bozman grew up in a rural area of northeast Ohio, and lived most of his life there before moving to Boone County in 2005. He had been an auto mechanic for ten years, until recently moving into information technology. He has been active in Boone County politics since being energized by the 2008 presidential campaign when he was elected Precinct Captain. His motivation was increased with the campaign to defeat the parks tax, and acted as Treasurer for Brenda Bushelman-Gluck.
