Jamma Foundation is an independent 501 (c) 3 non-profit corporation dedicated to its mission of providing essential support to Bon-po nuns. Our Founder and Board of Directors are based in the United States. We are aided by exceptional advisors and volunteers from the Bon-po community based in Nepal. We are a group of concerned citizens who wish to promote freedom of religion, education for women and peace on earth. We are dedicated to the preservation of Bon as part of the world heritage and as a unique source of wisdom. Many of us are students of Bon and Buddhist teachings, having been fortunate to learn from important masters.
Some of these teachers are: H.H. the Menri Trizan, the official leader of the Bon people, who speaks often on behalf of nuns. The Venerable Lopon Tenzin Namdak who founded two Bon monasteries in exile and is respected and loved the world over for his compassion. Young Bon geshes (Ph.d's) like Tenzin Wangyal Rinpoche and Nyima Wangyal Rinpoche who carry on the tradition of Bon although they were born in exile outside of Tibet. Other teachers include Chogyal Namkai Norbu Rinpoche; an important Buddhist teacher of Dzogchen who has led many westerners to the Bon tradition. Lama Khemsar Rinpoche spreads Bon doctrine from his center in England. And finally His Holiness the XIV Dalai Lama, spiritual and secular leader of all Tibetans and winner of the 1989 Nobel Peace Prize.
To summarize our purpose; we value truth and support the virtue found in all of the world's religions. We feel peace is possible but it must come from within each individual. Individuals need examples of how to pursue the good life through faith and awareness, loving kindness and compassion.
