Especially if there's a little poetry in your soul, and Jake certainly has that poetry in his soul. After emigrating from Germany in 1953 Jake worked as an engineer for the Hydro at Trevallyn and Poatina.
But while engineering inspired his intellect, fountains inspired his heart. He fell in love with fountains while on a trip home to Germany during his long-service leave.
His works don't all bear his signature but Jake's fountains form a backdrop to our lives every day. The Macquarie House waterfall was one of his first, followed by the Grindlewald Hotel and lake fountains, Mitsubishi's Water wall, restored Fairlawn's fountain, Hobart's Police Headquarters in tandem with Peter Hjort's stainless steel spiral, some of his pieces can be found in Surfers Paradise, Sydney, New Guinea, also in front of the Hotel Le Meridien in Noumea and the Country Club Casino in Launceston.
