Photographer - James T Kaminsky

James T Kaminsky.jpg

James Kaminsky and his wife Cathey live in Plantation, Florida. James' interest in photography started in high school. He cut his photography teeth on manual 35mm cameras and his primary workhorses for his weeding and outdoor portrait photography business in Pennsylvania were twin lens reflex cameras.

Working with manual cameras, light meters, film development and black and white printing, he developed his skills in outdoor photography. Once the technology of digital photography improved, narrowing the gap of picture quality of film, did he choose to enter the world of digital photography. He shoots in color and manipulates the images for his black and white prints. Film photography is 50% skill and 50% luck - being in the right place at the right time. Digital photography is still 50% skill, 30% luck and 20% in understanding how to manipulate digital images with computer software.

James' initial trip to St. Marks National Wildlife Refuge was in September 2006 when he had the opportunity to spend two days photographing the refuge. He estimates that he took over 600 digital images. The natural beauty of the refuge and his love of clouds determined which digital images he would work on first.

James is working on a series of black and white prints entitled "Project - St Marks National Wildlife Refuge".

When not working with visual arts James focuses his energy as Director of Continuous Quality Improvement at ChildNet a child welfare non-profit agency.
