Description
Sanibel Island was established in 1885. It began as the home of Will and Harriet Matthews and their four children who traded in the harsher climate of the north for the more temperate, year round weather of Sanibel Island. Constantly entertaining friends and relatives from the north who flocked to visit, the Matthews decided to turn their home into a boarding house. And from this grew the gracious tradition of the historic Island Inn that now hosts families and friends from around the world.
Today, our 550 feet of unobstructed beach frontage and 10-acres of property form a horseshoe shape that seems to embrace you with a warm sense of community. A variety of accommodations with traditional amenities are available to meet the needs of practically any individual, family or group. Our location is the perfect spot for vacations, family reunions, corporate retreats and weddings.
While the Inn offers a very large beachfront (550 ft) it offers a limited number of units (57) and therefore a limited number of guests.
