Description
It all started in the summer of 2000, under many names, but most well known as Comic-Village. Originally it was just one server, with 5 Administrators: No-One, the_mask, Bandicoot, ALLEYcat009 and -KrAzY-KaTe-. The server provided a home for ex-MSN chatters, primarily MS Comic Chat users. In January 2001, we had become a network and as our userbase was no longer just chatters using Comic Chat, the name was changed to IRCX-City Chat Services. Five years on, the Administration Team now consists of 3 people; No-One , KrAzY-KaTe- and Mars. Servers are based in the United States and South Africa. In June 2005 we changed our chat servers from IRCX over to IRCD to offer our users better security, faster room registration and more control over their rooms. IRCX-City is ever changing and growing to meet users needs. Services and features are always being added and modified to better accomodate existing and new chatters.
The world was void and without form, uninteresting and lacking something. From out of the darkness Bill said, “Let there be Microsoft!” and so it came to pass and it grew and covered the earth. He looked at his bank account and saw that it was good. Later Bill said, “Let there be chat servers!” and likewise they too came forth into the void and flourished. He studied his creation and saw that it was good. Once again, Bill said, “Let there be fun chat!” and into the midst of his creation came the Microsoft Comic Chat client. However, the Microsoft servers were soon overrun with trouble-makers, and Bill decided this was not what he truly wanted for his new world so he disbanded the free Chat servers and orphaned the Comic Chat client.
There were rumours of the Microsoft Chat servers closing for a long time before it actually happened, on 21st February 2001. Many chatters were wise and began looking for new chat homes before the servers shut. A few chat servers opened to accommodate these people. Some of these new servers catered strictly to the Comic Chat client and others went for the text based clients. Some charged for room registration and others did not allow room registration at all or on a very limited basis.
