Description
Dr. Gabbert holds a Doctor of Ministry (D.Min.) degree in counseling and is a licensed Marriage & Family Therapist (LMFT). Additionally, she completed a two year certificate program in Advanced Studies in Couples and Family Therapy. She is an Approved Supervisor of the American Association for Marriage & Family Therapists. She has 15 years of post-graduate clinical experience specializing in relationship issues and the array of mental health issues such as depression and anxiety.
She is especially well trained in relationship issues such as marital/couple problems, affairs, divorce, remarriage & blended family issues, pre marital counseling, parenting issues, communication, conflict management, financial distress, family of origin issues, childhood trauma, sexual, emotional and physical abuse, sexual dysfunction, workplace issues, stress, life stage changes, coping with crisis, grief and loss, alcohol and drug addiction. She also has expertise in addictions: especially heroin addiction and abuse of other opiates (prescription medication).
Dr. Gabbert's approach is eclectic. She draws from many different therapeutic models depending on the condition. For example, when treating marital issues she utilizes the work of John Gottman, a marital researcher. When treating depression she utilizes the work of David Burns on cognitive therapy. If dealing with anxiety, she may utilize desensitization techniques of EMDR or Thought Field Therapy in addition to relaxation techniques. If a couple is experiencing difficulties caused by infidelity she will utilize material from Janis Abrahms Spring designed to help a couple heal after an affair.
