Events and Training
We run a huge number of events and courses around the country offering networking and training opportunities for fundraisers at every stage in their career.
These range from one-day conferences, to a 30+ course fundraising training programme, to meetings held by Special Interest Groups and Regional groups. The Institute provides individual fundraisers with the resources they need to perform effectively, and with the tools required for professional development.
A full listing of our events can be found in the calendar.
National Convention
Our flagship three-day National Convention in July was attended by over 2,000 people in 2008, representing over 370 different charities, from throughout the UK and Europe.
The programme is designed to appeal to fundraisers of all levels and anyone who works for a fundraising organisation. There are over 130 different sessions divided between nine specialist tracks, split across three levels of competence (beginner, experienced and senior) offering huge variety and choice.
You can visit the National Convention website to see what it has to offer you.
The National Awards are the only awards designed by fundraisers for fundraisers. Celebrating the outstanding achievements of both professional and volunteer fundraisers, the National Awards are presented at a gala dinner on the first night of the Institute’s National Convention.
National, Regional and Special Interest Groups
Our members benefit from our network of national and regional and special interest groups (SIGs), led by a group of committed volunteers. The Institute is currently represented across the UK by 12 National and Regional groups and 14 SIGs, with a further five in Scotland, covering a wide range of fundraising areas.
For more information, visit our Groups page.
Fundraising Codes
The Institute of Fundraising has developed the Codes of Fundraising Practice and a Code of Conduct to provide a guide to the law and best practice in relation to fundraising activity throughout the United Kingdom. They represent the standards set for fundraisers and are the basis for self-regulation in the UK.
Each Code covers a separate fundraising technique and provides not only information on areas of the law but also the best practice that the fundraising sector has set itself.
Abiding by the standards set in the Codes helps to maintain public trust and confidence and the sustainability of fundraising for all.
Policy and Campaigns - making your voice heard!
The Institute of Fundraising is the public voice for fundraisers and works to shape policy and influence legislation, engage with members, charities, government, media, the general public, and relevant bodies across a broad spectrum of issues that impact on UK fundraising.
We champion fundraising and ensure that the law facilitates charitable fundraising and supports the work of fundraisers. We also strive to increase public awareness of fundraising and how it works, so donors appreciate the fundraising work done by charities and by professional fundraisers working on their behalf.
Current policy and campaign work includes: Payment of Fundraisers; Recession Watch (managing in a downturn and recession tracker); Outdoor Fundraising in the UK; Public Collections; Direct Mail and Gift Aid Opt-Out.
