You may be wondering why I use a pseudonym. There are two good reasons, both to do with child protection. If my child was typical I don't think I would give his name or location out online. Because he is autistic this makes me even more wary. I have come across some autism sites where parents post their children's pictures, and I wish they would be more careful. If you think I am being overly paranoid, have a look at what people are searching for on Metaspy (the adult version), and see if that changes your mind.
The other reason is to do with the child's feelings. Many autistics are acutely aware that they are different, and will suffer when they start to become aware of what their friends think of them. A few wish to deny that they have a problem at all, or to hide it. Having a website about autism with their face and name on it could be social death to a child, and I see no reason to make peer relationships harder than they already are.
