- Independent Film Review’s home to cineastes who like good films. We’re just a few movie miscreants who spent our grad and film school loans on the Prisoner Box Set and building our Criterion Collections instead of on books and Heinekens—Heineken? F that s. Pabst Blue Ribbon!—and wanted jobs to fill our time during work. So we’ve started independently publishing our reviews of independent and other films independent of industry influence. The reviews we host are for people who both like to talk about good cinema and who watch it (live in LA or Austin for a while and you’ll see these two can be breeds apart).Unfortunately good films are rare. Fortunately the cities where our contributors live have good theatres where you can catch a classic or foreign or low budget release for under ten bucks and minus the National Guard and Coke commercials. But for the rest of y’all stranded in Middle (of Nowhere) America, there’s always those mail-order rental places (ad space available!) or since owning’s better than renting, those big name internet DVD distributors like, well, let’s just say legend had it their women were tall and only had one breast.
