Title

Inter-Ministry Committee on Youth Crime

Description

“We must view young people not as empty bottles to be filled, but as candles to be lit” - Robert H. Shaffer

A candle can be used to light up a room. It can also be misused to set fire to the same room. Similarly, young people are our resources and future; yet they can so easily be led into delinquency and crime.

For this reason, the Inter-Ministry Committee on Youth Crime (IMYC) was formed to galvanize efforts in rehabilitating young offenders and keeping youth from crime. The National Youth Council (NYC) provides secretarial support to the IMYC, a central committee made up of representatives from the Ministry of Community Development, Youth and Sports (MCYS), Ministry of Education (MOE), Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA), National Crime Prevention Council (NCPC), National Council of Social Service (NCSS), Singapore Police Force, Singapore Prison Service, Subordinate Courts, and experienced academics in the field. Our role is to initiate and steer an integrated and holistic approach towards tackling youth crime in Singapore.
