The aim of the Imperial Mapping Company is to provide 19th Century mapping instantly for any part of Europe with a fine level of detail and very high quality reproduction.
That means sourcing the definitive original maps, and then digitally capturing them using the most advanced scanning technology. Providing mapping at a standard scale and in a standard “projection” involves solving some tricky technical problems. The Imperial Mapping Company team is particularly well placed to deal with these issues because of its deep experience of Geographic Information Systems particularly of historical mapping.
The Imperial Mapping Company not only preserves this historical imagery, but working with our partners we plan to open up many exciting possibilities for interactive services.
