Image Descriptions

Image descriptions are just that -- descriptions of images. They are used to explain in words what an image depicts or portrays. By using words to describe an image, search engines can process, categorize and rank what an image is about. Using keywords to describe an image description can increase SEO and improve search engine visibility.

There are five possible components to an description:

1) The file itself
2) A description of the file or file summary - what the image is -- as well as its orign
3) The File history - when a new version of a file is uploaded with the same name, the existing file is replaced and becomes available via file history
4) File links - are a list of pages embed in the file
5) Metadata (images only) - This is any technical information about the file and the equipment used to create it. For example, what type of camera, etc.
