Description
Urbanism is the art of understanding cities. It is not a science. (True) urbanists understand & practice the art. - Roberta Brandes Grantz (Living Cities)
We are visionaries and healers, storytellers and ideators – psychologists, sociologists, architects, urban archaeologists, designers, garden & landscape designers, artists, and planners – urbanist all – who are committed to creating dynamic, sustainable urban core and neighborhoods. Most importantly, we understand cities and their dynamic behaviors. Because we work in a highly competitive environment we take seriously our commitment to act responsibly and ethically in all aspects of our business.
Frank is a keen observer and researcher of trends and cultural movements, a cultural sociologist and urban psychologist who has extensively studied urban culture, design, and architecture. While living in Portland, Oregon in the 90’s Frank was deeply involved in that city’s neighborhood coalition, serving on the board of two neighborhood organizations, participating in the “Northwest Neighborhoods” ad hoc forum, and as a member of the “Neighborhood Problem Resolution/Arbitration Board.” Prior to moving to Portland, Frank was involved in Akron, Ohio’s Highland Square neighborhood, and a member of that neighborhood’s first grass-root neighborhood association, and the conceptualization of Canal Place, an abandoned tire factory. As a professor of cultural studies at Marylhurst University (Portland, OR) one of his most popular courses was “Urban Paradoxes: Seeing the city with new eyes.” His essays on urban culture have appeared in numerous periodicals. While living in Akron Frank was a member of the administrative faculty of the University of Akron, serving as the “Director of External Affairs,” in the Department of University Advancement & Development.
