- I have taught in the areas of sociology, anthropology, English and communication studies. Presently, I am teaching in Communication Studies at Wilfrid Laurier Univeristy in Waterloo, Canada. I have degrees in sociology and anthropology from Carleton University in Ottawa, Canada and a Ph.D. in English from Monash University in Australia. My doctoral dissertation focused upon the social semiotics of space and the body in nineteenth century household manuals. I was a founding editor of Space and Culture and I have written essays addressing such topics as public space, the concept of carnival in the writings of Bakhtin, the social organization of Victorian domestic space, the social semiotics of space, and actor-network theory. My general areas of interest include technology and culture, social semiotics, and cultural studies. I am also, with John E. Richardson and Katie Weir (Q.U.T.), co-editor of the online journal Studies in Language & Capitalism.
