About Anthony Rowlands
Anthony was born and brought up in Shanklin, Isle of Wight where his parents owned hotels. He attended Ryde School and then won an Open Scholarship to Oxford University. After gaining an Honours Degree from Oxford, he qualified as a teacher at Cambridge University and later gained an MA in Educational Administration at London University. Between 1976 and 1999 he was an assistant teacher then head of department in a number of state and independent schools.
Anthony has been a member of the Liberals and then Liberal Democrats since 1974. In the late 1970s he was an assistant to Steve Ross -
for the Isle of Wight 1974 -1987. From 1986 to 2003 he was a member of St Albans City and District Council representing Marshalswick South Ward. He was Deputy Leader of the Council, 1997-9, and Group Leader 1999 - 2000. Between 1993-7 he was County Councillor for St Albans North. He was the Liberal Democrat Parliamentary candidate in St Albans in 1997.
