New Years Eve on the Web. Welcome to IBCWORKS.NET

Description

And additional mirror of this site is located in Europe. It will be updated live on New Years Eve in real time.

How to use this website:

The idea is to get you to a web cast or web cam as quickly as possible. Not a lot of graphics, scripts or other things that would slow you down. In most cases you'll find a direct link. The web cams are an example of this. In other cases you'll have to search for the live audio at the website you've clicked into. For example, if you want to know what the current time in UTC is visit here. Since we are using Style Sheets, the link is highlighted in color. Some sites are in Korean, Chinese, French, or another languages you might not understand. Look for graphics that will clue you, like the Real Player Logo, or Windows Media Logo. Hint: roll your mouse over the link, if you see "ra", "rm", that is a link to a Real Networks stream. If you see "asf", or "wma" that is Windows Media. If you don't see either, you may go to Real or Microsoft's website to pick up the player.) Why mainly radio and not TV? Radio station streams work well over modem connections. Radio stations can not resist either doing a live broadcast or something different as midnight approaches. What about Webcams? They'll also provide good connections.

Several years ago, Kim Elliott at the Voice of America spent his New Years Eve, listening to how the world celebrated using short-wave radio to hear international and domestic stations ring in the New Year. Kim used to host Communications World every weekend on the Voice of America. Kim will be live on Jan 1, 2004 on Talk to America on VOA. The program is currently available to listen to on demand. .We have assembled a list of webcasters (stations who transmit programs over the Internet), webcams (cameras that take a photo every few seconds) who will usher in the New Year 2003. To get you started here is a twenty two minute audio clip from WABC, it features Cousin Bruce Morrow (now at CBS FM in NYC), Guy Lombardo via remote and Charlie Greer (deceased) following on the overnight. Suddenly it's 1965. The ABC Newscast sounds an awful lot like today's news doesn't it? Moving forward a few years, NBC Radio's Ben Grauer reported the arrival of the New Year from Times Square in New York .He did this for several decades (and you thought Dick Clark was the first to do it?) This is one of his last live reports, on New Year's Eve 1971. It's the last clip on the page. (may be an earlier year)
