It was in Laguna, CA, while working on his offshore ultra-light racing sailboat that Mark Itnyre (a commercial airline pilot) first visualized using materials from high performance boats and airplanes to make surfboards. Mark thought he could make a more lively and responsive surfboard by creating a super light, hollow board with a tough outer skin using advanced composite materials like carbon fiber, Kevlar and aircraft aluminum honeycomb.
