ABOUT US
Halifax Regional Search and Rescue (formerly Waverley Ground Search and Rescue) is a community-based, volunteer emergency response organization. The team was first established in 1972 as Waverley Ground Search and Rescue formally changing its name to Halifax Regional Search and Rescue on July 26, 1996.
From it base at 116 Lakeview Road, Lakeview Nova Scotia, Halifax Regional Search and Rescue is one of four Search and Rescue Teams serving the citizens of Halifax Regional Municipality. The team remains on call 24 hours a day, 365 days per year and will respond when requested by the RCMP, Halifax Regional Police, EMO (NS) and EMO (HRM). The Team has an area of responsibility of 6000 km² centered around Halifax and Dartmouth. Halifax Regional Search and Rescue will also respond to emergencies outside its jurisdiction to assist other Nova Scotia SAR Teams and various other emergency response organizations upon request.
The team’s mandate is to find and rescue the lost person in the best possible condition within our jurisdiction and to provide such other assistance to other teams and municipal, provincial and federal agencies, when requested. In addition, the Team has a very active public education program, educating children, youth and adults in woods-proofing programs.
