In the last two decades, as result of Iranians migrations to the West, a considerable number of cultural organizations with such names as “Khaneh Iran” have been formed throughout the United States, Canada, Western Europe and Australia. They do a great job in perpetuating Iranian culture and tradition. However, such organizations are mostly for the Iranians and very few none Iranian will have the motive to visit them.
In contrast, House of Iran, located at the heart of the beautiful Balboa Park in San Diego California, will have thousands of non-Iranians visit it in any given year. Balboa Park is recognized as one of the most beautiful and historical parks in the United States and enjoys 15 million visitors per year. Some of the visitors to the park come to the place known as the “International Cottages” where other countries from all over the world have their cottages. The original cottages were built in 1935 with the sole goal of fostering to good will and better understanding amongst all nationalities.
House of Iran has been a member of the International Cottages since 1993. As a result of our outstanding contributions to the enhancement of Iranian culture and sponsoring many programs at the park, we were given a plot of land in the historic International Cottages area to construct a cottage to be known “House of Iran”. House of Iran act as the good will ambassador of the Iranian people. Thousands of people from all over the world and United States visit House of Iran to enjoy Iranian art, music, dances and costumes. House of Iran, is a chartered member of the International Cottages, and has no affiliation with any government, political or religious organizations. The fund for construction has come from private donations of the Iranians in the United States, Canada, and Europe.
