About GEE
Bob Gee came to the islands by mistake!!!! , A long trip from his home on the northern shores of Lake Superior in Ontario, but like many who have eventually settled here, the islands could not be taken out of his soul. Prior to settling on the islands, Bob worked for a number of energy related companies in Calgary Alberta specializing in structural geology, firstly in Coal Exploration, then Coal Mining and finally shifting to Business Development with a focus on Coal Development and business strategies. This work exposed him to many parts of the country, from Nova Scotia through to Alberta and British Columbia, and finally with a three year assignment in Australia.
On returning from Australia, Bob stumbled on Hornby Island, and once smitten stayed. From 1980 through to 1990, Bob contributed to the community being elected Treasurer for Ratepayer's Association for a number of terms, elected to the Advisory Planning Committee on community planning and finally having a direct impact on island directions when elected as an Islands Trustee. Though these are not directly related to professional work, Bob's Administrative Diploma from the University of Calgary, and his minor of Geography from his Honours BSc Degree in Geology at Queen's University at Kingston stood him well for these tasks.
Beginning in 1982 Bob, and his then partner began a sailboat charter and home rental business that latter which grew to such proportions that in 1989, the home rental business was incorporated into a real estate sales operation, and slowly one was returning to the rush of the outside world again. As community time was reduced to make a living--- (And to build a new Home!!!) our Gone Bananas, a trusty sloop was used less and less until 1991 when the chartering stopped. To continue helping out the community the focus shifted to becoming a member of the Fire Department, and finally a Fire Commissioner, as well as a director of the Hornby Island Festival Society. (Bob was a Modern Dancer in his early years- so why not re establish some contact with our intimate island artists???)
