- Hookamax dive systems began in 1996 as a joint effort between several boaters, divers, research & development field engineers, mechanical engineers and manufacturing professionals. The common need was to come up with a practical hooka dive system for the average boater to clean the bottom of their own boat, or do on spot underwater inspections without the need for bulky, heavy and expensive scuba diving outfits. The standard scuba tank systems were considered to large for storage on most pleasure boats under 45 feet, not to mention the hassle of filling tanks.
