Full Description and history

Pre-Hollowshrine Era

Final Dawn was a board started on the now defunct invisionfree service by Makoto Tribal (a.k.a "Experiment ~227" and "Opel teh cat girl").

The forum gathered a large amount of gaming and anime fans. Later on, Final Dawn suffered downtime, and came back as Hollow Destiny. The forum was active until around 2005, where it became very in-active and was abandoned.

At the beginning of September 2006, moogleboi (that's me) put forward the idea of starting a new forum and website to Makoto. moogleboi had previously started his own personal gaming websites such as "GameShrine". Thus, this is where the name "HollowShrine" came from.

The start of Hollowshrine

HollowShrine was started on the 26th of September 2006 under Frosthost, it was served for free thanks to Gopzap until 31st of January 2009.

The site originally started as just a forum with plans for an anime orientated website. The forum gathered some attention and had about a dozen sign-ups in the first week.

HollowShrine today

Hollowshrine has a growing user base with members mainly from North West England, New Zealand and America. The forum has around 50 active members, around 30,000 posts and 2000 topics across over 20 general interest boards. Statistics can be found here [1].

Recently I (Boosh) took over hollowshrine and had to change servers and domains. It is now www.hollowshrine.co.uk

Services of the site

Hollowshrine now consists of just a forum and a gallery. The forum runs under SMF as of 2007, previously ported from a hybrid version of phpBB. The installation is heavily modified, and has a custom theme designed by community members emosponge and computermann24. The gallery can be modified by users, and runs under coppermine, bridged with the SMF database.

Past projects have included a main portal and blog service. The main portal ran under Joomla, linking parts of the site onto one page, however, the portal and gallery where removed in the mid 2007 during a major site upgrade. The portal was removed due to infrequent updates and being seen as pointless by the community. The blogging service was removed due to inactivity and maintanence issues with B2Evolution, an open-source blogging engine.

The site is currently running SMF RC 4.
