- Located in the Upper Barataria Estuary of St. James Parish and Lafourche Parish in the Coastal Zone of Southeast Louisiana, this important forested coastal wetland consists of over 7,600 acres of bottomland hardwoods and cypress/tupelo swamp habitat. The initial phase of the project will rehabilitate, enhance and preserve over 391 acres of bottomland hardwood habitat and over 2,342 acres of cypress/tupelo swamp habitat. Over 800 acres of highly degraded cypress swamp wetlands that are currently reverting to open water will be restored by replanting the barren areas and restoring the hydrological functions of the entire 2,773 acre ecosytem.
