Higginbottom.com
Title
Paul & Jane Higginbottom's family web site!
Description
When/Why
We started this site in 1999 to share pictures and hobby info with friends and family. Originally the site was stored (hosted) on space provided with our broadband provider, but that was limited both in size and capabilities. We moved the site first to one ISP and now to another, the great folks at fuzzymonkey.org.
Getting started
We bought a scanner to scan in some photographs and Paul began composing a basic 'home page'. Pictures were on the home page, but to add other content (like DVD reviews and information on our home theater) we had to 'break up' the site and have the home page link to the other pages. Now we've organized content into folders to make adding stuff easier.
Layout
It's important to try to make the layout 'fit' whatever monitor the viewer has, and be reasonably fast to use by not having image files be too large (more on images below). HTML tables (and 'invisible' tables - ones without visible borders on the cells) help enormously in making pages that stretch or shrink to fit whatever size of browser window a visitor has. HTML supports tables within tables too, which many sites use.

Contact
Whois information is public, but in response to some people wanting to keep their contact information private, many domain name Registrars offer a "privacy" or "proxy" service to mask the domain name owner. This domain is most likely using a proxy service. |
