Many Americans think that heraldry is one of the things left behind when the United States broke away from the British Empire. Some Americans do not even know what heraldry is. But heraldry is not a worthless relic of an aristocratic past. Generally speaking, heraldry can be thought of as the study of coats of arms, and it is still alive and well in the United States.
