Title
HemiHelp - Info & Support for Children with Hemiplegia
Description
HemiHelp started in 1990, and became a registered charity in 1991. Its founders were a group of parents brought together by a research project based at the Hospital for Sick Children at Great Ormond Street, London.
HemiHelp now has over 2,700 family and professional members throughout the UK and the Irish Republic. For most of its existence it was run entirely by parent volunteers – and parents are still very much involved with its management. But it now has an office in London with four paid members of staff. This has enabled it to improve and expand its support and information services to its members, as well as lobbying with other child disability charities on behalf of children and young people with hemiplegia and hopefully influence future legislation on issues which affect their lives.
Family and professional membership is free to UK residents, so that its services are available to anyone who might benefit, regardless of income.
