What can we tell you about our lives that will help with the decisions you’re trying to make? Most importantly we always knew we wanted children; it’s one of the reasons we married each other. We met in 1998 and our first date lasted 12 hours! As you can imagine we talked about a lot that day, including friends we each knew who were dealing with infertility issues. We both agreed that adoption was a great way to grow a family and that life without children was not a choice for either of us. We fell in love right there and then!
We had two great weddings. The first was a traditional English wedding in Helen’s hometown, Sheffield, England with a costume party for the reception. The second wedding was in Mark’s hometown, Burlingame, California on January 1st 2000 and Mark made our wedding cake – a fairy tale castle!
We wanted children and hoped to have a large, happy family. Once we learned that we were unable to conceive a child we went through several fertility treatments including donor eggs and donor embryos. The counseling that was a required part of the procedures just confirmed our beliefs that whichever way children come into our lives we will love them unconditionally. We believe everything happens for a reason and are excited about opening our arms and hearts to a new adopted family. There’s more than one way to have that ‘large, happy family’ we dreamed of!
