The all-encompassing, often gripping challenge for every immigrant is that of meeting the pressing needs of his family – social, financial, cultural, educational and spiritual – in his newly adopted country. For the thousands of Hebrew-speaking Israelis making their new Canadian home in Thornhill , Ontario the answer has come in the form of the welcoming Chabad-initiated Israeli community led by Rabbi Yisroel Landa. Since 1989, this community has flourished at a heartening rate from a base of some 20 families to serving a community of 3,500 families. Its success and promise come for good reason: a genuine, unconditional, and all-embracing welcome to all.
The community, housed for now at the Beth Chabad Community Centre, hosts a multitude of social and celebratory events that are characterized by animated socializing, spontaneous singing, generous good food, and the warm and engaging spirit of family and fellowship. Programs revolve around the community sharing of Life Cycle events (birth; coming of age; marriage), religious services and important celebrations in the Jewish calendar year. Educational classes are offered at every age level and level of interest. Members benefit from social service resources that provide financial, job-related, family dynamics or religious counselling - to funding for special educational or therapeutic needs of individual families. Furthermore, the appreciation and sense of responsibility inspired in its membership has spawned a large, energetic group of volunteers who respond to every aspect of the community’s needs. Our hope is to continue to grow in every way with a vision to someday enjoy our very own site dedicated as the Beth Chabad Israeli Community Centre
