Description
I was born in Detriot, MI to a loving family of atheists and agnostics. I was raised to be a free-thinker, so in my childhood I never had any connection to—or interest in—any sort of religion or spirituality.
At the age of 16, having suffered from the same high-school dramas that most American children experience, I realized that I was, in a very real way, creating the very dramas that caused so much suffering for me, and so I decided to do something about it. I decided to do whatever it took to become the person that I wanted to be—no games, no excuses, no more self-victimization. Since that time, I have searched tirelessly for the Truth of my own nature, for it seemed to me that this was the only way to find permanent relief from my suffering.
In college, I earned a B.A. in philosophy, and upon graduation I entered the Peace Corps where I taught mathematics to 8th and 9th grade students in the West African country of Guinea. I had grown up in a middle-class, White American family, and so I wanted to see if my ideas about how the world worked were compatible with the kind of life that most humans live—utter poverty. I was deeply affected by my two years in the Peace Corps, but I felt that my future as a healer needed to bear fruit in the United States—the country commanding the most resources on the planet. By helping Americans to heal themselves and come to Wholeness, perhaps they would then be able to make the world a better place.
