Soon after that meeting in 1946, they formally applied to National Association of Home Builders (NAHB) for charter. That charter was granted in the fall of 1946 under the name "Associated Home Builders of Louisville". The original charter application contained the names of eighteen members. From that first meeting over 50 years ago, the organization has grown to be one of the fourth largest home builders' associations in the United States.
