Description
Built on the bedrock of the Spiro Institute, an organisation that has successfully taught Jewish history, culture and Modern Hebrew for over 20 years, the London Jewish Cultural Centre is the place to come for Jewish culture, whether you want to attend classes, come to events, find out about what’s happening in the community or become involved in our work on anti-racist and citizenship initiatives.
At the Centre, we are proud to welcome over 600 students a week who have enrolled in our courses or attend book readings, film shows, lectures and art exhibitions. We are constantly expanding our adult education programme and offer day and evening courses in Jewish history, language, culture, music, literature, art or film. We also runs courses in the wider community and are always keen to respond to requests from groups and institutions who would like to be able to offer courses on their home ground.
The London Jewish Cultural Centre works within the community to promote anti-racist education and citizenship initiatives. Our cultural and educational programmes are aimed at a broad audience of Jews and non-Jews, encouraging inter-faith and inter-cultural dialogue and activities. We work with Holocaust survivors who tell their stories to students in schools and colleges throughout the UK. We aim to build bridges between the Jewish experience of persecution and racism and that faced by those persecuted today, whether because of race, ethnicity or cultural difference. We also run conferences and seminars with other organisations, developing anti-racist and citizenship initiatives.
