In the spring of 1998, eight people gathered together in a friend's kitchen to discuss a few problems they all shared. These people had all been active volunteers in the fight against AIDS for many years.Each had tried, in his or her own way, to get some organization or service provider in Michigan to take on one of three major unmet community needs:
It sounded reasonable, but the answers were always the same; some one should do this except-- there are some people that won't approve of it or we can't make waves. So those eight people did the only thing they could-- they started HAS, an organization dedicated to "bridging the gaps for people affected by HIV/AIDS."
