From nine founding members in 1992, the Group has grown to become the leading banking group in the region with 2.6 million active clients, and 6,200 employees. Hansabank Group completed the 2004 with a net profit of EUR 182.8 million. The result represents a 40% increase on the year 2003 result. The Groups earnings per share increased to EUR 0.577. Hansabank Group's return on equity was 24.7% and return on assets was 2.5%. Hansabank has identified the three Baltic countries as its home market, and has a committed strategy for Baltic expansion. The Group also serves niche segments in Russia, where it operates in Moscow, St. Petersburg and Kaliningrad regions.
