The American Hanoverian Society I HOME

Description

The American Hanoverian Society, Inc. (AHS) was incorporated in 1978 to establish, maintain and operate a non-profit association of breeders, owners and friends for the promotion and preservation of the warmblooded Hanoverian horse on the North American continent; to maintain a public registry of Hanoverian horses; to mark or brand approved stallions, mares and foals with the Society’s registered brand; to disseminate information to breeders, owners and friends pertaining to the breeding and raising of Hanoverian horses; to promote the performance of the Hanoverian horse in dressage, combined training, hunting, jumping and driving; and generally to do all things appropriate to encourage a public understanding of the Hanoverian horse, its breeding and performance. What began in 1978 with only 40 members has grown since that time to become an internationally recognized organization.

The AHS licenses stallions for breeding and organizes an annual inspection tour of Hanoverian mares and foals. Non-Hanoverian mares and stallions may also be approved for breeding if they meet strict breed and pedigree requirements and receive a sufficient score at inspection to be admitted to the Hanoverian breeding program.

The breeding rules and standards of the AHS are consistent with those of the Verband hannoverscher Warmblutzuchter, e.V. (VhW), the German Hanoverian breeding association. The AHS invites representatives of the VhW to the annual inspection tour and to all board meetings and annual meetings to help maintain the continuity of the breeding program.
