Description
So, what is HALoogle? Well, it could be a lot of things, but for our purposes, it is a place where we can talk about search engines and other Internet related subjects.
Why HALoogle? People might recall the name HAL from the blockbuster 1968 movie, 2001: A space odyssey. HAL was the computer that went mad with power. As most people realize, HAL was simply a code for another well known computer manufacturer who was the largest one from that time (and still rather well known today). To "decode" the company, simply take each letter of H A L and go one more down the alphabet. In other words, go one letter behond H and you get to I. We suppose Mr. Kubrick wanted to avoid any legal complexities with that certain three letter manufacturer.
In today's world, a certain web engine company (the largest for its time too), is one that gets its fair share of oogling and that some may see as something of a metaphore for the HAL9000 in the Internet world.
