Haiku Bonanza takes modern Haiku to a new level. As can be learned in the history section of the site, a Haiku was a Japanese form of poetry composed of 17 syllables. These poems were usually about nature but as haiku's spread across the world a new variety of haiku was born. Called senryu, the restrictions on syllable and form were more relaxed AND these poems usually were about human nature and included humor.
The poems on Haiku Bonanza all utilize the strict 5-7-5 form of traditional haiku's while throwing all rules about content out the window. Some of these Haiku's are comedic, some are sexual, some a violent, some are about nature, some are about life but we at Haiku Bonanza feel these poems can and should be about anything the author damn well pleases. In addition, we have encountered sites with haiku's that completely break the 5-7-5 standard. These are not haiku's, the uniform nature of the structure is what has made Haiku's what they are. All the haiku's on this site follow that form.
