A few days early, sure. I'm listening to the first cicadas of the summer. There is no sound more evocative of blistering hot days and endless sunlight than the cicada's song.
New Edinburg Imagery on Google Earth
June 8, Google Earth uploaded a huge new update of high-resolution imagery. Many areas, such as Edinburg, that were previously visible only as indistinct blobs of color, are now sharp and clear. Take a look at the UTPA Campus, for instance. I can see my own car! The new Education Building hadn't been constructed when this picture was made--you can still see the outlines of the baseball field at Jody Ramsay Stadium.
It's not the top-quality 6-inch imagery that covers the Strip in Las Vegas or the Google Campus in Mountain View, but it is much better than what we had before. Note that the new imagery still hasn't been uploaded to Google Maps, so if you want to compare how much better the new stuff is, go check out Edinburg on Google Maps, then fly in on Google Earth. The difference is amazing.
