Gregorians AFC

Description

Gregorians AFC is a voluntary organisation founded in 1959 by former pupils of St Gregory's Grammar School in Manchester. The aim at the time was to provide organised amateur football for the old boys from the school. The club started with one team which played in a local league with moderate success. St Gregory's Grammar School has long since been closed but the club has continued to grow as an organisation both on and off the field. Gregorians AFC currently run four teams which all compete in the Manchester Football League.

As is the case with all football clubs, success and failure has been cyclical, but generally Gregorians AFC is regarded as one of the strongest amateur football clubs in the Manchester area. Players are recruited from all over Manchester. Established players join the club because of its reputation and the club is well known for working in the community with young footballers, offering access to organised football, qualified coaching and a route to excellence.

The club is managed by a working committee with designated officer posts. The majority of revenue funding is achieved internally though subscriptions, events, raffles etc. although the club is very grateful for external funding to help finance the purchase of new kits and equipment.
