Gramas Attic- A Collectors' Resource guide for Vintage Tablecloth and antique kitchen linens collectors -Information, Education, Virtual vintage tablecloth Gallery and Web Store

Description

OK, I admit it, I am obsessed. It started innocently enough with two old printed tablecloths of my grandmother's that I inherited several years ago. They were bright red strawberry patterned cloths, classic 1940s. They immediately brought back memories of my Grandmother Helen Betty McGinnis. Her kitchen, was a warm happy place full of love, kisses, and cinnamon toast. As a little girl visiting her in the summer, I would help set the tables for her ladies bridge parties. She would let me choose tablecloths from her collection of vivid fruits, charming floral, and wonderful geometric prints. When I was finished decorating, the living room was filled with lavish colors and charming designs.

After I received those two vintage tablecloths, I simply had to have more. I was hooked. When I put one on my table, I was lost in the beautiful designs of days gone by, transported back to a simpler time, when I didn't have to check my email, pay my cable bill or coordinate my children's play dates. I began searching every antique store and flea market in Southern California, and had my wonderful mother buy every tablecloth in Southwest Missouri until I had a collection that numbered well over 500. Every time I brought another treasure home my sweet husband would remark, "Don't you already have enough tablecloths?" as if that were possible. My darling children would ask, "Can we eat on this one mom?" So, to justify my ever-growing collection, I became a dealer in vintage linens. I now buy and sell vintage tablecloths and linens and share my love of these pieces of kitchen history with other "obsessed" collectors through my on-line store, Gramas Attic Antiques and Collectibles.

Over two years ago, I set out to create a history of vintage tablecloths, to discover their origins, the major manufacturers, and the evolution of dyes, fabrics, and designs. This has been an on-going and sometimes extremely challenging process of discovery. The search for information from the few sources that were available on vintage fabrics, kitchen textiles, and other related printed cotton manufacturing sources gave me the foundation for two books, "The Collectors Guide To Vintage Tablecloths ", Schiffer Publishing, summer 2002, and "The Collector's Guide to Souvenir Tablecloths" Schiffer Publishing, January 2004. I wanted to give vintage tablecloth collectors a reference book that would contain information for accurately dating their collection, provide interesting details about some of the major manufacturers, and of course, show pictures of hundreds of wonderful vintage tablecloths. A visual feast for the eyes and soul.
