Title
Rangjung Yeshe Gomde - Dzogchen Buddhist Meditation and Retreat Center
Description
Rangjung Yeshe Gomde was founded in 1998 by Chokyi Nyima Rinpoche at the wish of his late father Tulku Urgyen, one of the great meditation masters of modern times. Our annual summer program features teachings and meditation instruction with masters from the Chokling Tersar tradition. Newcomers to Buddhism as well as long-time practitioners are welcome to join in studying, practicing and discussing the teachings. Year-round activities at Gomde include community meditation and rituals, practice and study group meetings, and opportunities for individual retreat. Gomde also hosts urban retreats in the San Francisco Bay area.
Extraordinarily direct and uniquely suited to our times, the experiential teachings of Dzogchen emphasize the natural spaciousness and clarity of mind. The preciousness of this wisdom inspires Gomde's core mission: as a living center for the practice and study of Buddhist teachings with authentic masters.
Gomde is located just off Highway 101 on the outskirts of the small town of Leggett, three and a half hours drive north of San Francisco. The beautiful Eel River winds through 250 acres of woodlands, meadows and bluffs, forming several very welcome swimming holes along its course. Peaceful walking trails meander through forests of fir, madrone, redwood and oak, opening onto stunning vistas of rugged beauty. In a broad meadow near the Buddha Hall is the Dharmachakra Garden, planted in the form of the Dharma Wheel.
