G lowbead was initially formed in mid 1997 when John McElhaney (guitar) and John DeLaPaz (clarinet) decided, for some strange reason, to get together to jam. After playing together a couple of times John and John decided that they needed some more instrumentation. DeLaPaz asked Jeremy Green if he'd like to sit in with the unlikely pair, and Green being the musically adventurous type, agreed.
After a short while Jeremy's friend Bryan Snyder began to play with the group bringing the distinct sound of a steel drum and the occasional hand drum. In the summer of '98 Bryan left the band to pursue other interests. Tanner Johnson was asked to fill Bryan's spot on the steel pan, but he was more interested in playing his brand new marimba than a steel pan and the rest of the band thought that sounded like a good idea.
A few months later Chris Tubbs was recruited to provide a much needed bass end for the group. Shortly after Chris joined the band they began gearing up to record and album. As sound tests were proceeding, John DeLaPaz left the band for personal reasons. The sound test recordings were compiled into a CD named "The H Files" in honor of John "Hooch" DeLaPaz.
