Description
The Woden Valley American Football Club (WVAFC) is one of the newest teams formed to participate in the ACT Gridiron (ACTG) competition. Our aim is to become the best sustained club in the competition, fielding a Senior Team (18+) in our inaugural year of 2007, and then setting our sights on establishing ourselves in the ACTG Junior competition beginning in 2008. The formation of this team will be facilitated by increasing our presence in schools in the local area, and raising the public profile of the sport during the regular season.
The WVAFC was formed in January 2006, with the intention of bringing a Gridiron team to the Woden Valley area, and to assist the ACTG in reestablishing a fourth team in their domestic Senior season. The club was founded by a group of dedicated American Football followers, Adam Browning, Dom Radman, Mark Snow and Michael Whitesell, all with many years experience in the game both here in Australia and overseas. The Club now operates out of the Kambah and Weston Creek area. Our executive is made up of people who have played the game, as well as have had many years experience in both administering American Football in Australia as well as coaching the game to a National level.
The philosophy of the club is both simple and realistic, and follows that of the National governing body, Gridiron Australia, that is to bring the game of American Football (Gridiron) to as many people as possible, and to assist in the development of the game from both a senior and grass roots level juniors).The club has already established a core group of people who are interested in participating in the 2007 season. These players and coaches represent people who have had previously had representation on the Australian Outback Gridiron team, as well as playing at a National Championships level, to players who have simply played the game both in the ACT and NSW over many years, who have decided to come back and play once again. We also have a group of players who are rookies, who have seen the enjoyment that can come from playing on a team, where they are respected and are taught the finer points of the game so as to assist the team in being successful.
