Geckos Glaciers
Description
The Geckos Glaciers have been around since 1999 and we often get requests for information about the team when people plan to move to Korea. This page is designed to let you know a little bit about who we are and how you can join us.
The Kimchi Pot International Ice Hockey Tournament was started in 2002 to bring teams from around Asia together to have a memorable hockey experience in Korea. Habitat for Humanity is the charity that receives the donations from the Kimchi Pot Tournament. The Glaciers volunteer their time and donate the revenue from the tournament so that Habitat for Humanity can help build affordable housing for Koreans that are less fortunate than others.
On a cold winter day in 1951 a group of soldiers from the Princess Patricia Canadian Light Infantry Regiment took to the ice for the first-ever game of hockey in Korea. Braving cold weather and mortar fire, they played on the frozen surface of the Imjin River. The Imjin Memorial Cup is in memory of all the men and women who served in Korea and helped the people stay free and proud.
