GingerJens.com is a public health dietitian's collection of nutrition research

Soul food can heal what medicine can only hope to touch.

As a public health dietitian, I learned that health is chosen and created through daily habits. Accepting that health is earned rather than just happening (after a certain age at least), can boost motivation to resist the easy, comfortable foods or habits and instead work at building health.

If instead health is viewed as something that an external person, prescription, or surgical procedure will provide (for a price), then health may actually be a bit hard to grasp and maintain.

Good food and nutrient support can aid in physical and mental health, but without an accompanying belief that the body can and does repair itself health may remain out of reach.
