General Internal Medicine Group, established in 1983 by Dr. Arthur A. Rubin and Dr. Mary Jane Major, offers two convenient locations in Fairfax and Arlington, Virginia. The highly trained and caring physicians and their assistants in the practice treat a wide range of general concerns and specific illnesses and offer in-house diagnostic testing, travel immunizations, esthetic skin care, and nutritional counseling. General Internal Medicine Group works with the goals of getting to know each patient as an individual and taking the time to develop an in-depth understanding of his or her health conditions and history.
The doctors at General Internal Medicine Group maintain a focus on comprehensive preventive care. Dr. Rubin graduated from the Georgetown University School of Medicine in Washington, D.C. He has worked as a speaker or consultant to numerous health organizations and businesses and has served in executive roles with Virginia professional medical societies. Cofounder Dr. Mary Jane Major also completed her medical education in the nation’s capital, at The George Washington University, and previously practiced at nearby Falls Church Medical Center.
Other physicians associated with the practice include cardiologist Dr. Raymond Hoare, who trained at Georgetown and the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill School of Medicine. Dr. Hoare’s duties include overseeing stress tests and the office’s echocardiography lab. Rheumatologist Dr. Ellen M. Jenkins, who attended the Medical College of Virginia, finished her subject-specific training at The George Washington University. Dr. Nina Selvaggi is the practice’s endocrinologist. She served as a professor at McGill University in Montreal, Canada, before moving to the Washington, D.C., area. Dr. Gary Fender, a graduate of the University of Medicine & Dentistry of New Jersey who maintains a strong interest in preventive medicine, is another long-time staff member.
The practice maintains an open-access scheduling policy and staff availability 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
