- In 1995 a group of Eight Chief Executives of companies located in GIDC Electronics Estate in Gandhinagar formed a group called Action Group Electronics (AGE). This group's main concern was why Gujarat has been lagging behind in the field of Electronics and what steps are needed to be taken to catch up. What they took up as their first task was convincing the State Government that this sunrise industry needs special attention. They started actively interacting with various departments of Government with the result the Government of Gujarat started recognizing them as the spokesperson for the industry and as a consultant on all policy matters regarding growth, sustenance and well being of the industry. On 14th December, '96 GEIA (Gujarat Electronics Industries Association) was formed with initial membership of around 40 members. In 1997 GEIA was rechristened as GESIA (Gujarat Electronics & Software Industries Association) to widen scope to include software industries and was incorporated as a Non Trading Corporation.
